Semaneo (semaglutide) injection is a prescription medicine used with a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity to:

  • Help adults with obesity, or some adults with excess weight (overweight) who also have weight-related medical problems, to lose weight and keep the weight off.
  • Reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events such as death, heart attack, or stroke in adults with known heart disease and with either obesity or being overweight.

How does Semaneo work?

Appetite and the Brain

Our brain controls hunger and fullness.

In people with overweight or obesity, these signals can become imbalanced, leading to stronger hunger, more cravings, and less satisfaction after meals.

Normally what happens
In obesity

GLP-1 response is weaker

Result: "I'm still hungry" even after eating

Normally what happens:
  1. You eat food
  2. Body releases GLP-1 hormone
  3. GLP-1 tells the brain → "I feel full"
In obesity:
  • GLP-1 response is weaker
  • Result: "I'm still hungry" ✖ even after eating
How Semaneo helps

Semaneo is a GLP-1 receptor agonist (mimics natural GLP-1).

Steps to use Semaneo

Prepare for the Injection

Get your supplies together in one place:

  • You‘ll need your Semaneo pen
  • 1 alcohol swab or soap and water
  • 1 gauze pad or cotton ball
  • An FDA-approved sharps container for the used Semaneo pen

Wash your hands

Check your Semaneo pen

Do not use the pen if

  • It appears to have been used
  • Any part appears broken
  • The Semaneo medicine is not clear and colourless through the pen window (air bubbles are normal)
  • The expiration date (EXP) has passed
1
Prepare Your Semaneo Pen
  • Check the name and coloured label of your pen to make sure that the pen belongs to the desired dose of Semaglutide. 0.25/0.5/1/1.7/2.4 mg.
  • This is especially important if you take more than one type of injectable medicine. Using the wrong medicine could be harmful to your health.
  • Pull off the pen cap.
  • Check that the solution in your pen is clear and colourless. Look through the pen window.
  • If the solution looks cloudy or coloured, do not use the pen.
  • Take a new needle.
  • Check the paper tab and the outer needle cap for damages that could affect sterility. If any damage is seen, use a new needle.
  • Tear off the paper tab.
  • Do not attach a new needle to your pen until you are ready to take your injection.
  • Make sure to attach the needle correctly.
  • Push the needle straight onto the pen.
  • Turn until it is on tight.
2
Needle Setup
  • The needle is covered by two caps. You must remove both caps. If you forget to remove both caps, you will not inject any solution.
  • Pull off the outer needle cap and keep it for later. You will need it after the injection to safely remove the needle from the pen.
  • Pull off the inner needle cap and throw it away. If you try to put it back on, you may accidentally stick yourself with the needle.
  • A drop of solution may appear at the needle tip. This is normal, but you must still check the flow if you use a new pen for the first time. See step 2 ‘Check the flow with each new pen’.
Always use a new needle for each injection.
  • This will reduce the risk of contamination, infection, leakage of solution and blocked needles leading to the wrong dose.
  • Do not reuse or share your needles with other people. You may give other people a serious infection or get a serious infection from them.
  • Never use a bent or damaged needle
3
Choose The Injection
  • Your healthcare professional can help you choose the injection site that is best for you
  • You may inject into your upper leg (front of the thigh), lower stomach (keep 2 inches away from your belly button), or upper arm—but make sure you can clearly see the pen window while injecting
  • Do not inject into an area where the skin is tender, bruised, red, or hard. You should also avoid injecting into areas with scars or stretch marks
  • You may inject into the same body area each week, but not in the exact same spot each time
  • Before taking Semaneo, clean your chosen injection site with an alcohol swab or soap and water.
  • Do not touch the injection site after cleaning. Allow the skin to dry before injecting.
4
Inject Site
  • Insert the needle into your skin as your doctor or nurse has shown you.
  • Make sure you can see the dose counter. Do not cover it with your fingers. This could interrupt the injection.
  • Press and hold down the Injection button. Watch as the dose counter returns to ‘0’. The ‘0’ must line up with the dose pointer.
  • Continue pressing the Injection button while keeping the needle in your skin.
  • Count slowly to 6 while keeping the Injection button pressed.
  • If the needle is removed earlier, you may see a stream of solution coming from the needle tip. If so, the full dose will not be delivered.
  • Remove the needle from your skin. You can release the Injection button.
  • If blood appears at the injection site, press lightly with a gauze pad or cotton ball. Do not rub the area.
  • You may see a drop of solution at the needle tip after injecting. This is normal and does not affect your dose.
5
After Injection
  • Carefully remove the needle from the pen. Do not put the needle caps back on the needle to avoid needle sticks.
  • Place the needle in a sharps disposal container right away to reduce the risk of needle sticks.
  • See “Disposing of used Semaglutide pens and needles” below for more information about how to dispose of used pens and needles the right way.

How to store Semaneo pen ?

Before opening

Store your new pen in a refrigerator between 36°F and 46°F (2°C and 8°C). Do not freeze. Keep away from the cooling element. Keep the pen cap on in order to protect it

During use

You can keep the pen for 6 weeks when stored at a temperature below 30°C or in a refrigerator (2°C to 8°C) away from the cooling element. Do not freeze Semaglutide and do not use it if it has been frozen.

When you are not using the pen, keep the pen cap on in order to protect from light.

The pen you are using should be disposed of (thrown away) after 6 weeks, even if it still has Semaglutide in it.

Unused pens may be used unl the expiraon date (“EXP”) printed on the label, if kept in the refrigerator (2°C to 8°C)

What if missed a dose ?

Missed dose

If a dose is missed, it should be administered as soon as possible and within 5 days after the missed dose. If more than 5 days have passed, the missed dose should be skipped, and the next dose should be administered on the regularly scheduled day. In each case, patients can then resume their regular “once weekly dosing” schedule.

Changing the dosing day

The day of weekly administration can be changed if necessary, as long as the time between two doses is at least 3 days (>72 hours). After selecting a new dosing day, once-weekly dosing should be continued
